Why Community Service Is Important for Students at Lakeside
Engaging in community service projects provides our students with the opportunity to become active members in our community and has a lasting, positive impact on our agency and those citizens served.
The personal benefit of community service, or volunteerism, is that it develops an increased sense of social responsibility and opportunity to give back to others. Volunteering enables our students to practice new found life skills, enhance their personal knowledge, grow from new experiences, and develop better interpersonal communication skills. Community service increases overall life satisfaction and helps our students feel good about themselves via helping others.
At Lakeside, community service is encouraged for most students. Sometimes it is mandated by courts. Our position is that community service can go a long way toward increasing student accountability, it reconnects youth with local neighborhoods and projects while building on a sense of pride and accomplishment.
